Agnes Water Integrated Water Treatment Plant - Pipeline Cleaning
As part of Council’s routine maintenance plan, works will occur from Sunday, 31 August to Wednesday, 3 September at the Seawater Intake for the Agnes Water Integrated Water Treatment Plant (IWTP), located at Chinaman’s Beach, Agnes Water.
Works will ensure continued delivery of a safe, efficient water supply to the townships of Agnes Water and Seventeen Seventy.
Specialised contractors will be working for a few days at Chinaman’s Beach, on land and in the ocean, to undertake cleaning of the Agnes Water IWTP inlet pipework.
The details below aim to help answer queries about these works.
Project details
A. Specialised contractors will be working at Chinaman’s Beach, on land and in the ocean, to undertake cleaning of the Agnes Water Integrated Water Treatment Plant inlet pipework.
Works are scheduled from Sunday, 31 August to Wednesday, 3 September, weather permitting.
To keep our community and visitors safe, temporary closure of Chinaman’s Beach Access Road and Beach Access Track will be in place during this time.
The above dates are a guide. Due to the nature of works, and unforeseen delays, works and timeframes may vary.
A. Works are part of Council’s routine, two-yearly maintenance plan to ensure continued delivery of a safe, efficient water supply to the townships of Agnes Water and Seventeen Seventy.
A. Specialised contractors will be working for a few days at Chinaman’s Beach, on land and in the ocean, to undertake cleaning of the Agnes Water IWTP inlet pipework.
Specialised and heavy equipment, including cranes, will be in use within the works area, with boats and divers working on the ocean side of the pipeline. A dive team will oversee works in the water and collect any equipment dispersed from the pipework and excess debris.
For public safety, a works exclusion zone will be established, with a temporary road closure in place and no public access off Springs Road for the duration of the works.
A. Equipment will be sent through the pipeline on the land side propelled by water. This cleans the pipeline as it progresses and will be retrieved by divers positioned on the ocean side of the pipeline.
A camera will also be used in the pipeline to help assess pipeline condition and determine if any further requirements may need to be considered for future cleaning works.
A. No water impacts are expected.
For the duration of the works, water quality, pressure and flows should not be impacted; however, to enable maximum availability of water supply during works, we do ask:
- Please limit water use where possible.
- Restrict sprinkler use: During these works, please refrain from irrigating with sprinkler systems.
- Restrict pool filling: Please plan to delay topping up or filling of pools in this works timeframe.
A. Some noise, dust and vibration may result from the works area.
A. Protecting our environment is important to Council, in all works that we undertake. Environmental management plans have been established and where necessary, relevant environmental approvals are acquired.
During the cleaning process, built-up material in the pipework such as silt, sand and debris (natural to the environment) may be dispersed from pipework and be visually noticeable in the water for a short period.
This is a possibility; however, only a small quantity of debris has been extracted during pipework maintenance in previous years and it is likely that there is less residual build-up in pipework.
During works there will be constant monitoring of materials dispersed from pipework.
