Specialised contractors will be working for a few days at Chinaman’s Beach, on land and in the ocean, to undertake cleaning of the Agnes Water IWTP inlet pipework.
Specialised and heavy equipment, including cranes, will be in use within the works area, with boats and divers working on the ocean side of the pipeline. A dive team will oversee works in the water and collect any equipment dispersed from the pipework and excess debris.
For public safety, a works exclusion zone will be established, with a temporary road closure in place and no public access off Springs Road for the duration of the works.
WHAT TO EXPECT
- 31 Aug-3 Sep: Temporary closure of Chinaman’s Beach Access Road and Beach Access Track from the afternoon of Sunday 31 August, reopening after works are completed on Wednesday, 3 September.
- No water impacts expected: For the duration of the works, water quality, pressure and flows should not be impacted; however, we do ask you to limit water use where possible.
- Restrict sprinkler use: During these works, please refrain from irrigating with sprinkler systems to enable access to maximum water supply levels during works.
- Restrict pool filling: Please plan to delay topping up or filling of pools in this works timeframe, to enable maximum availability of water supply during works.
- Noise and dust: Some noise, dust and vibration may result from the works area.
- Ocean debris: During the cleaning process, built-up material in the pipework such as silt, sand and debris (natural to the environment) may be dispersed from pipework and be visually noticeable in the water for a short period. This is a possibility; however, only a small quantity of debris has been extracted during pipework maintenance in previous years and it is likely that there is less residual build-up in pipework.
- Please follow signs and directions.
