Residents have been notified of these works in advance that are expected to be completed by mid-February 2022.

The Lake Awoonga Water Mains Renewal Project has been conducted over three stages as part of Gladstone Regional Council’s 2021 works program.

Works involved include the removal of existing water mains, installation of temporary above ground water lines, installation of new water main, new water main connection, testing and activation of the new water main and removal of temporary water lines.

Stage 1 of the project started in July at New Auckland (encompassing Sandpiper Avenue from Lorikeet Avenue to Cockatoo Drive), with Stage 2 beginning at Clinton in August servicing Aerodrome Road from J. Hickey Avenue to Clark Street.

Stage 1 works were completed in August and Stage 2 works are expected be completed by 10 December.

Gladstone Region Councillor Chris Cameron said water mains in these areas were identified as ageing water infrastructure requiring replacement.

“The Lake Awoonga Water Mains Renewal Project aims to deliver a more reliable water supply for our residents with the new infrastructure expected to help reduce unplanned water interruptions,” Councillor Cameron said.

“Construction times will be Monday to Friday 6.30am-6pm and 8am-4pm Saturday and Sunday, although some night works may be considered.

“These works may also impact footpath access with ramps in place to protect temporary above ground water lines where they cross residential driveways and roadways.

“As always, Council’s commitment to safety and quality ensures that all works will be undertaken with the highest practical levels of safety for workers, residents, pedestrians, motorists, cyclists and users of the area, but please exercise caution when travelling through this area.”
