Upgraded sewer rising main to provide network longevity

Underground infrastructure at Tannum Sands has received a new lease on life following the upgrade of a 370m sewer rising main located along the eastern side of Millennium Esplanade.
Forming part of Council’s Capital Works program, the pipeline – originally constructed in 1976 – was condition assessed and identified as being at the end of its service life and needing replacement.
Gladstone Region Acting Mayor Natalia Muszkat said work occurred in stages to minimise disruption to nearby residents and community events that utilise Millennium Esplanade.
“The pipeline extends from the northern end of the Esplanade to south of Tannum Sands Surf Lifesaving Club,” Acting Mayor Muszkat said.
“These works involved removal of the existing sewer rising main, installation of a new sewer rising main, new sewer rising main connection to the existing network, testing and commissioning.
“Replacing this ageing infrastructure reduces the risk of leaks, has environmental benefits and will reduce long-term maintenance costs.”
