Gladstone Region Industrial Ecosystem video launched at LGAQ Conference
Mayor Matt Burnett proudly unveiled the Gladstone Region Industrial Ecosystem video at last week’s 2023 LGAQ Annual Conference held at GECC from 16-18 October 2023.
The LGAQ Annual Conference provides an opportunity for Councils to influence positive change and promote new ways of strengthening the local government sector, while providing a valuable networking forum for local governments in Queensland.
Mayor Burnett presented the video for the first time in front of hundreds of people including Mayors, Councillors, CEOs, sector experts and delegates at the conference’s Welcoming Ceremony held on Monday 16 October.
“A lot of people have been asking me about how we are managing our transition from Queensland’s industrial powerhouse to a renewable energy superpower,” Cr Burnett said.
“It is well known that our region has been managing industrial growth and change for decades.
“Now that Australia’s massive energy transition to renewables is underway, we are using that experience to innovate and come up with a new approach.
“The Gladstone Region Industrial Ecosystem video explains this new approach in less than four minutes.”
Cr Burnett said the proposed Gladstone Region Industrial Ecosystem would develop based on one industry’s waste being a valuable resource for another.
“Council is planning for an entire ecosystem to develop that considers the cumulative impact across the region,” he said.
“Our major industries are already working on transition plans which only enhances the ecosystem approach.
“However, the major benefit is that it will build better economic, environmental and social outcomes for the Gladstone Region, while continuing our proud industrial heritage.”
The Gladstone Region Industrial Ecosystem video is now available to view online and across Gladstone Regional Council’s social media platforms. It is also available with Japanese and Chinese captions.
