Boil Water Alert lifted at Bororen

Gladstone Regional Council (GRC) advises that a Boil Water Alert in place at Bororen since Tuesday, 26 August, has now been lifted effective 10am, Friday, 5 September 2025.
The Alert was issued following a water main failure on 26 August, causing the town reservoir to deplete.
As a result of this, sediment from the bottom of the reservoir may have entered the network making the water non-compliant with drinking water quality standards.
To restore supply, the reservoir was required to be thoroughly cleaned and refilled, with water trucks brought in to maintain supply and flush the system.
The reservoir was cleaned, refilled and returned to service on 1 September; however, the boil water alert remained in place while further water quality testing took place.
That testing phase is now complete and Bororen’s water supply has been deemed safe for consumption per Queensland Health guidelines.
Residents who have not been using their water are advised to run their taps for up to 5 minutes to flush any stagnant water out of the system.
“On behalf of Gladstone Regional Council, I want to thank the Bororen community for its patience and cooperation during this time,” Gladstone Region Mayor Matt Burnett said.
“I also want to thank Bororen Produce, Bidfood Gladstone and the Bororen Hotel for assisting with the unloading and distribution of bottled water and to the GRC employees who worked around the clock to restore water quality to residents in a safe and timely manner.”
Residents can stay up to date with unplanned outages by signing up to RegionWatch (regionwatch.gladstone.qld.gov.au) and registering for alerts – this allows Council to SMS affected residents directly and keep you up to date quicker.
