There is more to the Harbour Arbour project than meets the eye

Council is set to transform a section of its Central Business District (CBD) both below and above the surface following the release of concept design images for the Harbour Arbour Project.

Below the surface, Council has identified a range of essential infrastructure along Goondoon Street, between Lord and Yarroon Streets, that is nearing the end of its service life and scheduled for replacement.

Water infrastructure, stormwater drainage and selected sections of sewerage mains will all be replaced and the relocation of overhead power lines to underground will improve both functionality and the streetscape appearance.

Above the surface, Council will transform this same section into a vibrant tree-lined boulevard, providing a safe and green pedestrian linkage while maintaining inbound and outbound lanes for vehicular traffic and the upgrade to electrical infrastructure such as street lighting.

Gladstone Region Councillor Glenn Churchill said work is already underway on the detailed design in anticipation to tender for construction later this year.

"Your Council is creating a more attractive destination for our families to enjoy, a reason for tourists to visit and spend, and another iconic postcard image that makes us all proud to call Gladstone Region home," Councillor Churchill said.

“The addition of a Southern Great Barrier Reef inspired art installation featuring light projections on above-head Manta Rays that call our region home and fairy lights in the trees blends aesthetics and practicality to provide nighttime lighting.

"This isn't just about new pipes, pavers, and power lines, this project shows how we are active in getting our fair share of funding from Canberra for Gladstone.”

The project was made possible by Council successfully securing $5.3M in funding from the Australian Government, and pending a final investment decision, will be delivered by mid-2027.

Convert grey space to green and improve connectivity to activate open spaces
