- Description of Works
Works to upgrade the sewer rising main will occur from about March to August 2024, site conditions and weather permitting.
The existing 370m long sewer rising main pipeline, constructed in 1976, is located along the eastern side of Millennium Esplanade, Tannum Sands.
This asset has been condition assessed and identified as being at the end of its service-life and needing replacement. This project is included in Council’s 2023/24 Capital Works program with work to be carried out by a Contractor.
- March 2024
- August 2024
- More information
Work will involve:
- Removal and/or grouting of existing redundant sewer rising main (located under road and footpaths in some areas),
- Installation of new sewer rising main,
- New sewer rising main connection to the existing network,
- Testing and commissioning of the new sewer rising main.
Work is being planned with public safety as a priority, with Council extremely mindful of peak holiday times in Tannum Sands with the community, visitors to our region and dates of known community events on Millennium Esplanade considered.
When works start in 2024 you can expect to see Contractors in the area on weekdays with some work at night and on weekends.
Due to equipment and machinery operating in the area, noise and dust are likely from the project area.
A temporary on-site work area will be established at the northern end of Millennium Esplanade.
The sewer rising main construction involves open trench excavation using temporary fencing and metal plates to protect exposed areas outside of work hours.
At times, some pedestrian detours, disruption to traffic flow, and parking restrictions will be experienced along the esplanade.
Work is planned to occur in stages to help minimise public disruptions.
To keep the public safe, there may be times when some amenities near the immediate work area may also need to be closed.
