NAIDOC Week celebrations are held around the country each year to celebrate the history, culture and achievements of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples.

The theme for NAIDOC Week 2022 is ‘Get Up! Stand Up! Show Up!’ and celebrates the long history of First Nations people rallying together to fight for change.

Flag Raising Ceremony and Morning Tea 

The community is invited to attend the annual NAIDOC Week Flag Raising Ceremony at the Gladstone Civic Centre. While the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Island flags are flown throughout the year, this ceremony reaffirms Gladstone Regional Council’s commitment to acknowledging our First Nations people. The ceremony features speeches from First Nations Elders and Gladstone Region Mayor Matt Burnett.  

The ceremony, all attendees are invited to enjoy a morning tea in the Gladstone Civic Centre forecourt.

Get Up! Stand Up! Show Up! NAIDOC Expo 

Gladstone Regional Council is hosting its first ‘Get Up! Stand Up! Show Up!’ NAIDOC Expo. The event aims to enhance the relationship between Council, service providers and our community.  

When: Wednesday 6 July 10am-2pm 
Cost: Free 
Location: Philip Street Communities and Families Precinct, 1 Pengelly Street, West Gladstone.  


The Sapphires – Exclusive Discount Code 

The Sapphires is a multiple award-winning musical play and film that is coming back to the Gladstone Entertainment Convention Centre stage on 6 September 2022. 

To celebrate NAIDOC Week, GECC is offering a 10 per cent discount on tickets to The Sapphires purchased between 3-10 July 2022.

2022 NAIDOC Week Exhibition 

The annual NAIDOC Week Exhibition profiles the art of First Nations people, heritage works, local voices and memories, as well as images and cultural connections from the Gladstone Regional Art Gallery & Museum collection.

Artist Donna Maree Robinson and local artists have developed digital works which will be projected onto the outside of the Gladstone Regional Art Gallery & Museum during NAIDOC Week 2022. Digital projects on display from 3 July to 8 July.
