Gladstone Region Cemetery Plan 2022
The Gladstone Region Cemetery Plan has been developed to inform an action plan for Council controlled cemeteries, crematorium and memorial parkland facilities (the cemetery network) and sets the future direction for cemeteries within the Gladstone Region.
Council’s vision for our cemeteries is to deliver cemetery services which meet the needs of the community and are affordable for all.

Council has identified a number of opportunities / actions required in certain target areas that will enhance the delivery of cemetery services across our cemetery network. These opportunities will be progressed through Council’s Investment Decision Framework(PDF, 654KB) (IDF).

ACCA Code of Ethics
The Members of the Australasian Cemeteries & Crematoria Association Ltd shall:
- Provide burial and/or cremation services in an exemplary and dignified manner.
- Acknowledge and respect the importance to the bereaved and the community of:
- burial and cremation services
- cemeteries, crematoria and memorial gardens
- monuments and memorials.
- Be conscious of the diverse religious, ethnic and cultural background of the community, and considerate of requests to cater for special needs.
- Reflect the value of the services provided by their respective cemetery/ crematorium/memorial gardens’ in the fees which are charged, and not encourage any person to commit themselves beyond their financial resources.
- Encourage the continued development and exchange of knowledge, skill and expertise by Members of the Association.
- Conduct their respective cemetery/crematorium/memorial gardens’ in accordance with the Guidelines of this Association to bring credit to the profession.
- Not engage in any conduct or action which may damage the image of the profession or unjustifiably detract from the good name of the Australasian Cemeteries & Crematoria Association or a fellow Member.
Family history
The Genealogical Society Gladstone District Inc., Queensland Registry of Births, Deaths and Marriages and the Gladstone City Library’s Local Collection Room are helpful places to look for family history.
Flowers, vases, memorabilia and tributes
Gladstone Regional Council understands the need to show love and remembrance through the placement of floral and ornamental tributes. These guidelines(PDF, 3MB) clearly outline what kind of tributes can be left at graves, ashes plots and memorial sites at Gladstone Region Cemeteries.
Grave site restoration
If you are considering completing grave restoration work in any of the memorial sections of Gladstone Regional Council's cemeteries you will need to complete a Monumental Works Application form.(PDF, 205KB)

Bororen Cemetery
Located near the Bruce Highway, Bororen
- Pedestrians can access every day
- Earliest recorded burial in 1887
- Monumental Section – closed for new grave site purchases, reserved site interment only
- Lawn Section – open for new grave site purchases
- Ashes Columbarium Wall – single and double plots available
- Plaques can be arranged through a funeral director
Boyne Tannum Memorial Parklands
Pioneer Drive, Boyne Island
- Operating hours 8am-6pm Monday to Friday; 10am-6pm weekends and public holidays
- Opened in 2007 with parklands, crematorium, chapel on site
- Options available such as free standing ashes plots and walkway ashes plots
- Plaques and memorialisation urns can be arranged through a funeral director
- Open plan chapel building appeals to the wider community regardless of religious beliefs
- Chapel offers serene bushland outlook across the river inlet
- Seating for 80-100 people indoors
- Open verandah design allows capacity for larger services
- Extra chairs can be arranged on request
- Chapel has a modern sound system and audio-visual equipment
- 50 chairs available

Calliope Cemetery

Closed/Historical Cemeteries
There are five cemeteries across the Gladstone Region deemed to be historical.
Most are pedestrian accessible but are closed to all interments and reservations.
Builyan Cemetery (originally Many Peaks Cemetery)

Miriam Vale Cemetery
Blomfield Street, Miriam Vale
- Pedestrians can access every day
- Last recorded burial in 1959
- A one to two-kilometre walking trail, Tranquillity Walkway, leads to Miriam Vale Cemetery from Miriam Vale township
Nagoorin Cemetery

- No burials for many years
