Project information

  • Works along a 201m section of Goondoon Street between Yarroon Street and Lord Street.
  • Critical underground infrastructure replacement: water assets, stormwater drainage and sections of sewer mains.
  • Street lighting upgrade: moving overhead power lines to underground, to improve functionality and the streetscape appearance.
  • Road and footpath works: for a safe, green pedestrian link between the CBD area and East Shores.

Planned works forecast

  • 13 July 2026: Construction start 
  • July to Oct 2026: Stage 1: North East section - incorporating properties from the Mieplace Nightclub side of Goondoon Street uphill to Chaplain Watch. 
  • Sep to Nov 2026: Stage 2: South East section - continuing works on same side of street from Chaplain Watch uphill to Gladstone Reef Hotel.
  • Nov 2026 to Feb 2027: Stage 3: South West section - works cross the road to start on the western side, from the intersection at the cnr of Yarroon St downhill to the under construction Harbour City Veterinary Surgery.
  • Dec 2026 to Mar 2027: Stage 4: North West section - continuing works on the western side, from the under construction Harbour City Veterinary Surgery to the Lord St intersection. 
  • Feb 2027 to May 2027: Overall completion works throughout entire project area
  • About mid-2027: Project completion.

What to expect during works 

Within the work area, along Goondoon Street (between Yarroon St and Lord St)

  • Businesses throughout the project area will remain open and accessible during construction.
  • Works will take place Monday to Saturday, 6.30am-5pm, site conditions and weather permitting, with possible Saturday or night works at later stages when approved by Council. 
  • Works will occur in stages/sections to minimise disruptions for businesses, residents and the community. 
  • Temporary construction fencing around the immediate work area. 
  • Traffic reduced to one lane, one-way only for the duration of this project (traffic to flow in one direction along this Goondoon Street section from the Yarroon Street intersection downhill to Lord Street).
  • Changed road conditions. 
  • Reduced speed limits.
  • Reduced on-street parking within work areas.
  • Road and pedestrian signs and directions. 
  • Heavy machinery and equipment operating.
