Project information

The existing culvert, located along Blackmans Gap Road between the Vanderwolfs Road and Burgess Road intersections, has been identified for replacement, with this project aiming to provide a safer culvert structure.

Works will involve replacement of three, about 45-year-old, existing corrugated steel culvert pipes with precast reinforced concrete box culverts, including wingwalls, headwalls and aprons. 

Works will include construction of base slabs on-site, installation of precast culverts and roadworks. 

Planned works 

Before the culvert replacement, local road users will notice increased work activity in the area with site preparations, including the formation of a temporary, single lane side-track for drivers to detour around the work area. This will require removal of some trees. 

Council takes a sensitive approach to vegetation clearing and has undertaken environmental assessments of the area. 

Targeted removal of vegetation, however is necessary. Vegetation will only be removed where absolutely necessary to enable the works and to ensure the safety of workers. During clearing works, heavy machinery will operate with a fauna spotter/catcher on-site. Noise, dust and construction traffic can be expected in the area. 

1 July 2026: Anticipated start of side-track construction, site conditions and weather permitting. 
Until about 30 September 2026: Culvert replacement works. 

What to expect during works

A temporary single lane side-track will be established as a detour around the immediate works area with traffic lights operating at each end. 

  • Works Mon to Fri, 7am-5pm, weather permitting. 
  • Noise, vibration and dust from the work area is expected.  
  • Heavy machinery and equipment operating.
  • Traffic management at times, including traffic disruptions and delays. 
  • Road changes and reduced speed limits.
  • Please follow directions and signage in the area.
