Calliope River Historical Village

Port Curtis Historical Society Inc (PCHS) is a not-for-profit organization that relies solely on volunteers and diligent fundraising to help the Calliope River Historical Village remain open to the public 6 days a week.

A modest kiosk is genuinely appreciated by tour groups of schoolchildren and seniors alike, as well as locals and tourists.

The ‘Village’ welcomes around thirteen local school groups per year, in addition to hosting several private functions and weddings. However, the bulk of our patronage per year is from a local pool.

The aim of PCHS Inc., which operates the ‘Village’, is to educate, entertain, maintain, and preserve, with its mission being to keep today’s community connected to our precious history – its objective being the study of the history of the Port Curtis District of Central Qld.

The facility, situated approximately 25 km from the outskirts of Gladstone, presents to the public over twenty buildings that pay respect to our early settlers.

Each building is in itself a museum filled with valuable heritage displays which engage not only today’s younger generation in a stimulating way but continue to entice a broad spectrum of locals and visitors to the region.

We love it when locals drop in to discover hidden treasures.
