Sun welcomed at Australia Day events across the region

Sunshine at Australia Day events across the region yesterday received a warm welcome from hundreds of residents turning out to celebrate. Mayor Gail Sellers said the Australia Day spirit was strong indicated by attendance at Council’s major Family Fun Day celebration at Millennium Esplanade, Tannum Sands.

Agnes Water resident Cheryl Wickes has been named Gladstone Regional Council’s 2012 Australia Day Citizen of the Year. More than 200 people attended the region's annual awards function at the Gladstone Entertainment Centre.

Residents renting in the Gladstone region will receive a water usage advice in the mail from early February. This new advice will detail a property's water consumption for the previous six months and average daily usage in litres. The information is intended to assist tenants to monitor, and possibly limit, their water consumption.

Council advises residents and business operators servicing the Gladstone Marina that the marina bridge will be closed from February 13 to 19 to allow for vital restoration works to be completed. It is anticipated the bascule bridge will be left in the upright position while the works are being carried out.

Council warns motorists to avoid crossing flooded causeways and low lying roads as they are particularly dangerous. Even a flow of 20cm in depth is sufficient to wash you or your vehicle away.
