Venue and Facilities Operating Hours during Christmas and New Year

Gladstone Regional Council offices and facilities will operate on different hours during the Christmas and New Year period.

Urgent phone enquiries will be taken 24 hours a day, 7 days a week on (07) 4970 0700.

Administration Offices, Depots and Rural Transaction Centres

  • Council’s Administration Offices and Rural Transaction Centres will shut from the close of business (COB) on Wednesday, 24 December and resume normal hours on Friday, 2 January.
  • Depots will also close at COB on 24 December and reopen on 2 January, as per normal hours
  • Visit www.gladstone.qld.gov.au/onlineservices if you have a non-urgent request.

Animal Pound Facility

  • Closed Public Holidays.
  • Impound Releases are by APPOINTMENT ONLY. Please phone Council on (07) 4970 0700 to make an appointment.
  • Registrations are to be completed online via GRC payment website PRIOR to contacting Council to make an Impound Release Appointment.
  • Impound and Sustenance fees will be payable over the phone, using Online Services ONLY.
  • If the animal is not microchipped, Council will arrange an appointment with the animal owner when GRC reopens to conduct the microchipping – the cost of the microchip will be paid at the time of release as it is included in the Pound Release Fees.
  • Only one person per appointment is allowed in the Pound.
  • Please bring your own restraints (leashes or cages/carriers) when collecting your animal.
  • Normal hours and processes will resume from 2 January 2026.
  • Animal traps will not be hired to the public from the close of business on Tuesday, 2 December 2025, and those that are hired out MUST be returned by noon on Tuesday, 16 December 2025.

Aquatic Centre and Pools

  • The Gladstone Aquatic Centre and the Mount Larcom Pool are operated by the Gladstone South Swimming Club.

Cemeteries - All

  • Vehicle and pedestrian access will be available throughout the Christmas/ New Year period (depending on the layout of the facility).
    • The gates to Port Curtis Cemetery, Calliope Cemetery, and Boyne Tannum Memorial Parklands will be open to vehicles and pedestrians between 8am-6pm on Christmas Day, Boxing Day, and New Year’s Day
  • Funeral services will be unavailable on 25-26 December and 1 January.

Gladstone Entertainment Convention Centre

  • The GECC Box Office and venue will close - 4.30pm Friday, 19 December 2025, and will resume normal hours from 9am Monday, 5 January 2026.

Gladstone Region Libraries

Gladstone Regional Art Gallery & Museum

  • Closes - 4.30pm Wednesday 24 December; resume normal hours Friday 2 January 2026.

Gladstone Tondoon Botanic Gardens

  • Open to explore every day, from 7am - 5.30pm. Closed Christmas Day (Dec 25), 
  • Administration Office and Visitor Information Centre will be closed from 4pm on Tuesday, 23 December, and reopen on Monday, 5 January 2026.
  • Yūjō Bonsai House will be closed from Saturday 20 December, 2025 until Saturday 3 January 2026.

Philip Street Communities & Families Precinct

  • Close - 4.30pm, Wednesday 24 December; resume normal hours 2 January 2026.

Transfer Stations, Landfill, and Waste Collections

  • Kerbside bin collection services will occur Monday to Friday as per usual schedule during the Christmas period
  • Benaraby Landfill will operate on normal hours except on Christmas Day, when it will operate on reduced hours from 7.30am-3pm.
  • All Transfer Stations will be closed on Christmas Day, but will operate as normal on Boxing Day and Public Holidays in December and January
  • Tip Top Shop at Benaraby Landfill and Gladstone Transfer Station will be closed 25-26 December.

Australia Day Public Holiday

All venues will be closed on Australia Day public holiday on 26 January 2026, except Tondoon Botanic Gardens. Click for more information on public holidays in Queensland (for example, regional holidays).

The Gladstone Aquatic Centre and Mount Larcom Pool may have limited operating hours.
