Description of works

The Tannum 04 sewer pump station located at the western end of The Oaks Road, Tannum Sands was constructed in about 1995.

As part of Council’s commitment to continuous improvement of our infrastructure, this asset has been condition assessed and identified as requiring renewal.

Sewer pump station renewal and upgrade is a project included in Council’s 2025/26 Capital Works program.

More information

If not renewed, deteriorating conditions of the asset could increase risks of sewer pump station failure, increase maintenance costs and potentially lead to environmental impacts and lengthy operational disruption.

Upgrade will improve asset performance, reliability and efficiency, ensure adequate capacity to service future catchment needs and achieve legislative requirements and compliance.

Works to renew and upgrade the sewer pump station will generally involve:

  • Emergency storage upgrade,
  • Installation of venting and odour control systems,
  • Sewer pump station upgrade replacing pumps, pipes, electrical and mechanical fittings,
  • Installation of new section of sewer rising main,
  • Electrical fit out,
  • Switchboard and back-up generator replacement,
  • Pump system testing.
Forecast planned works

Below timeframes are a guide only, are subject to change and dependent on site conditions and weather.

As we near project finalisation, isolation for tie-in works for the new infrastructure is now required.

Residents along The Oaks Road, Caledon Street, Booth Avenue, Hampton Drive and Latrobe Street are advised to be mindful of an increase in vacuum trucks being driven between Tannum 04 Sewer Pump Station and Tannum 03 Sewer Pump Station (corner of Langdon and Latrobe St) and of the potential for associated traffic noise.

  • Tues 21 July, 5pm-8pm: Trial isolation works. This will determine the timeframe and resources required for tie-in works to be completed. Vacuum trucks will travel to and from the TAN04 Sewer Pump Station site about every 20 minutes for the three-hour duration (approximately nine truck loads) to assist during peak flow monitoring. Please expect increased truck movement and traffic in your neighbourhood.
  • Thurs 23 July: Tie-in works. Dependent of the above trial outcomes, works will be scheduled either: During the day (from about 6am-2pm), or at night (from about 8pm-4am). During the timeframe for work, expect vacuum truck movements to and from the site.
  • Weds 29 July: Tie-in works. Dependent on the trial outcome, works will be scheduled either: During the day (from about 9am-noon), or at night (from about 8pm-11pm). During the timeframe for work, expect vacuum truck movements to and from the site.

What to expect
  • Vacuum trucks operating. Noise from vacuum trucks operating is expected to be minimal.
  • Vacuum trucks travelling to and from the site about every 20 minutes for the duration of works.
  • Truck transit noise.
  • No disruption to sewer network or services is expected.
