Council will be issuing animal registration renewal notices in September for the registration period from 1 November 2026 to 31 October 2027.
Animal registration renewals notices will be sent this month for the 2026/27 period.
Payment is due by 31 October 2026 with ‘early bird’ discounted renewal fees applicable until then – full fees will apply if payment is made after this date.
A dog or cat owner must pay the animal registration renewal before the period of registration for their dog or cat expires, regardless of whether a renewal notice is received.
It is a Queensland Government requirement that dogs and cats aged 12 weeks and over must be registered and microchipped.
Council is also introducing a new Juvenile Animal Registration fee for the 2026/27 registration period for puppies and kittens under 12 months of age.

Pet owners who may fall under this new category can take advantage of the early bird discounted fee by registering their pet between 1-31 October 2026.
Gladstone Region Councillor Simon McClintock said Council recognises that the first year of pet ownership can include several upfront costs, such as vaccinations, desexing, bedding, food and training.
“That’s why we’re offering a reduced juvenile registration fee so we can help support pet owners to manage these animal expenses while also meeting their Council registration requirements,” Cr McClintock said.
“Once an animal reaches 12 months of age, the registration category will go back to the relevant fee.
“This reduced fee is for new registrations only applies and can’t be backdated to registrations completed earlier.”
Cr McClintock added that Council still offers discounted registration fees for desexed and microchipped animals, as well as concession rates for eligible pensioners.
“These discounts are part of the way we help keep registration costs affordable for the pet owners ensuring responsible pet ownership within the community.,” he said.
