Bag it. Bin it. The simple way to keep our region clean

Gladstone Regional Council is reminding dog owners to do the right thing by picking up after their pets as part of its new Bag it. Bin it. campaign.
The campaign encourages responsible pet ownership by highlighting the importance of bagging and binning dog waste to help keep parks, footpaths, and other public spaces clean, safe, and enjoyable for everyone.
Gladstone Region Councillor and longtime dog owner Glenn Churchill said picking up after your dog was a simple act that makes a big difference.
“As a dog owner myself, I know how much we all love getting out and about in the Gladstone Region’s beautiful parks with our furry friends,” Cr Churchill said.
“Picking up after our pets is a small action that helps keep our region looking its best while making our parks more enjoyable for families, children, and other pet owners.
“It takes five seconds to bag it and bin it, and it keeps our beautiful region great for everyone.”
Council asks that you bag the waste and place it in a public, red-lidded general waste bin, or if there isn’t one nearby, to take it home and dispose of it in your red bin.
Dog waste is more than an unpleasant nuisance – if left on the ground, it can wash into stormwater drains and waterways, spread harmful bacteria and parasites, and pose risks to people, wildlife and other pets.

Cr Churchill said the campaign also recognises the work of Council's parks and maintenance crews.
“Our park maintenance crews do a fantastic job keeping our region looking its best, but hitting dog waste with a mower or whipper-snipper is a health hazard no worker should have to deal with,” he said.
“Taking a few seconds to bin your pet’s waste is a simple mark of respect for the people who look after our community every single day.”
Council reminds dog owners to carry disposable bags whenever they head out with their pets. Failure to pick up after a dog in a public place may result in a fine.
