Council’s Gladstone Region Cemetery Plan 2022 guides Council’s delivery of cemetery services across the region to ensure that our cemeteries are appropriately planned, built, used and maintained for the long term.

The plan is used to develop guiding principles to enable Council to:

Meet the needs of the community,
Offer services which are affordable to all,
Ensure there is sufficient capacity to meet future demand in a way that is efficient and financially sustainable for both the community and Council.

Work to develop two sections within the Port Curtis Lawn Cemetery grounds are included in Council’s 2025/26 Capital Works program and will be undertaken by a Contractor.

Works will involve construction of new lawn beams, extending water mains, and installation of irrigation and seating.

While providing a foundation for headstones, new double-sided concrete lawn beams will also make efficient use of available space.

What to expect

Work will include excavation, place and compact crusher dust, form and reinforce new lawn beams, concrete pour, water main extension, installation of irrigation and seating and landscaping.
Works will be scheduled to minimise disruptions to the cemetery's operations.
Public access to the cemetery will be maintained at all times.
Following works, temporary fencing will remain in place for about a month to enable turf establishment.
Port Curtis Lawn Cemetery visitors are encouraged to follow signs and directions and be mindful of the works area.
