Get Ready Queensland Week
Next date: Monday, 06 October 2025 | 12:00 AM
to Sunday, 12 October 2025 | 11:59 PM
Get Ready Week (6-12 October 2025) is a chance for all Queenslanders to prepare for the upcoming severe weather season. What's your What-if plan?
We are asking residents to think about how extreme weather could impact your life, make a plan to stay safe, and pack supplies so you don’t get caught out.
The aim of the week is to:
- Encourage Queenslanders to begin preparing for extreme weather
- Build community resilience - research shows people who are prepared for severe weather recover faster than those who rely solely on outside help
- Provide simple, actionable tips about how to Get Ready
It’s also a great idea to sign up for weather notifications from the Bureau of Meteorology and subscribe for weather warnings in the Gladstone Region at RegionWatch.
3 Steps to Get Ready
- Understand your risk – Impacts from extreme weather are different for everyone. Learn what can happen where you live and how it could affect how your family lives, works, moves and plays in your community.
- Have a plan – Make a household emergency plan so your family knows what to do and who to contact in extreme weather. It will give you peace of mind to have important information in one place.
- Pack a kit – Grab a few extra items next time you are at the supermarket for your emergency kit.
This year we want Queensland to thinking about packing:
- Long life food and toiletries in case you can’t get to the shops
- Drinking water in case the water supply stops working
- Batteries, a torch, and a radio in case the power goes out
- Essential medications (and keep your script with your pharmacy).
These are the basics, but you can think about what items your family might use if you were isolated and had to stay at home for three days.
There are other things you can do to be ready for extreme weather:
- Clean up – check around the house and yard and make sure your home will hold-up against the elements.
- Sign-up – subscribe to mobile weather alerts from the Bureau of Meteorology or your local council so you can act quickly in extreme weather is predicted.
- Get covered – Check your insurance so you know your property can be fixed or replaced if it is damaged.
Take the time now to get prepared and make Queensland the most disaster resilient state in Australia.
