Description of works

The existing Round Hill Reservoir (accessed off Glenlyon Road, Gladstone) has been identified as requiring refurbishment.

In preparation for this renewal work, an additional 4ML reservoir will be permanently constructed adjacent to the existing 12ML reservoir. This will ensure an adequate reserve water supply is accessible when the main reservoir is later taken offline for repair and refurbishment and, upon project completion, will then sufficiently increase the Round Hill reservoir water network capacity to cater for resilience requirements and meet future demands.

More information

Reservoir renewal will improve resilience of the infrastructure to better equip the community to deal with the increasing prevalence of natural disasters, as well as provide a more reliable water network to service the community for years to come.

Planned work

To enable necessary concrete works, Council has approved an exemption to allow project work to occur outside of usual hours, in accordance with environmental noise guidelines.

Upcoming works will require the concrete pour of wall panels, base slab and stitch joint pours to commence in early hours of the morning to allow optimum temperature conditions for placement and curing. The Contractor will take measures to keep noise levels to a minimum.

Concrete works (from 11 Feb until late May)

  • Once a week (no set day) starting from 4am, weather permitting
  • Increased construction vehicle activity
  • Concrete trucks arriving and leaving site
  • Potential noise from concrete pumps is expected

Notification of work starting earlier from 1am
As the project progresses, work on Friday 24 April is scheduled to start from 1am-2am, weather permitting.

  • Works will require the transport and pour of a large quantity of concrete for the base slab/ring beam of the new reservoir.
  • Concrete trucks will access the site from Boles Street and exit via Glenlyon Road.
  • The pour is expected to take about seven hours.
  • An earlier work start is required for optimum temperature conditions for placement and concrete curing, to minimise rates of evaporation from heat and wind, and to assist with the continuity of concrete truck movements when less traffic is on roads.
  • Scheduling works earlier will also prevent concrete truck deliveries from impacting the road network during morning, peak hour, work and school traffic.
  • An increase in concrete trucks arriving and leaving site, additional task lighting on-site and potential noise from use of equipment is expected.
  • The Contractor will take measures to keep noise levels to a minimum.

What to expect - overall project

  • Works Monday to Friday, 7am-6pm, with possible Saturday work at later stages when approved by Council.
  • General construction activities.
  • Traffic management at times.
  • Reduced speed limits near the reservoir entrance area.
  • Further notifications will be provided to the community prior to any water network disruptions.

Planned work timeframes are a guide only, are subject to change and dependent on site conditions and weather.
