Waste Education

Council’s 2019 Waste Education Strategy identified Waste Education as Priority One in the region’s step toward changing waste behaviour and improving resource recovery rates. Council's Waste Education Program provides services to schools and community groups to help reduce and reuse their waste going to landfill by recycling correctly, reducing contamination and increasing recovery rates. These include presentations for students, teachers and community groups including learning resources on our landfill, recycling practices, customised projects and workshops.

Our Waste Education Officer engages with the community through a range of events, programs and partnerships to influence positive waste and recycling behaviours. Imparting recycling and sustainability education to students can start a life-long journey of recycling that will impact how much waste is recovered and how much ends up in landfill.

Council has endorsed a 3-year education plan for the region to assist with improving resource recovery and decreasing contamination rates in household kerbside recycling bins, as well as litter and illegal dumping.

How to make your own bubbles!

Ingredients

2 tbsp sugar
1/2 cup hot water
1 cup room temperature water
1/2 cup baby shampoo/eco-friendly dish soap

Method

1. Make a simple syrup by stirring the sugar into the hot water until the sugar is completely dissolved.
2. Next, add the room-temperature water and the baby shampoo/eco-friendly dish soap.
3. Stir gently without making any suds.
4. Pour into your reusable bottle and play!
