Step up to Clean Up this Spring

As the winter months wind down, Gladstone Regional Council is encouraging residents to participate in this year’s The Great Spring Clean Up.
Whether it’s cleaning up your local area or preparing your home and backyard ahead of natural disaster season, each action contributes to a cleaner, safer and more resilient Gladstone Region.
Gladstone Region Councillor Karen Davis said now is the perfect time to start planning with family, friends, schools, local community groups or work colleagues for The Great Spring Clean Up.
“From 1-15 September community members or organisations, businesses and schools are encouraged to collect litter from streets, city areas, parks, bushland and waterways to help improve our environment,” Cr Davis said.
“Participants can drop off their Clean Up bag free of charge within dedicated laydown areas at Gladstone Transfer Station or Agnes Water Transfer Station at any time between 9am to 3pm until 15 September.”

Cr Davis encouraged residents participating in The Great Spring Clean Up to register via the Clean Up website (www.cleanup.org.au) as soon as possible to allow for the delivery of a Clean Up kit prior to the beginning of September.
“After registering your event, Clean Up Australia will deliver you, your community group, school or business a kit, or kits, containing all the items you need to make your Clean Up event safe and impactful,” she said.
“Participants will need to allow up to 10 working days after registering to receive their kit, so start planning ahead so you’re ready to go.
“In the second half of September, from the 16th to the 30th, residents can also dispose of eligible, uncontaminated green waste from their homes ahead of the upcoming natural disaster season.
“This free green waste disposal period is a great opportunity for residents without a green-lid Garden Organics bin to clear their property of any green waste items that may cause an issue during the summer months.
“Removing green waste and debris reduces potential hazards and minimises damage to your property and surrounding neighbourhoods during storms and cyclones. By preparing early, you are keeping your family, home and community safe.”

Residents collecting and disposing of their green waste do not need to register via the Clean Up website.
Free green waste disposal from 16-30 September is available at all of Council’s waste facilities, excluding Calliope Transfer Station, Mount Larcom Transfer Station and Turkey Beach Transfer Station.
