The Great Spring Clean Up is back for 2026.

Take part in the Great Spring Clean Up this September! Whether it’s cleaning up your local environment or preparing your home, every action contributes to a cleaner, safer and more resilient Gladstone Region.

Now is a great time to get involved with your family, friends, school, local community or work colleagues and do your bit.

The Great Spring Clean Up

From 1-15 September, community members, organisations, businesses, and schools are encouraged to collect litter (or general rubbish) in our streets, CBD / town areas, parks, bushland, and waterways to help improve our environment. Drop off your waste free of charge at the Gladstone Transfer Station or Agnes Water Transfer Station. Registrations required.

Free Green Waste Clean Up

From 16-30 September, Council will be offering free green waste disposal at selected Council waste facilities. Take advantage of this opportunity to prepare your properties ahead of the upcoming storm, cyclone and wet season.  Removing green waste and debris reduces potential hazards and minimises damage to your property and surrounding neighbourhoods during storms and cyclones. No registration required.

Green waste may include:

  • Tree branches and prunings
  • Palm fronds
  • Leaves and grass clippings
  • Shrubs and other garden vegetation.

By preparing early, you are keeping your family, home and community safe.

1-15 September: How to register your Clean Up event and receive a Clean Up kit

Whether you are a community member or organisation, business or school, it’s important to register your event with Clean Up Australia so that the broader impact can be measured

Registrations for The Great Spring Clean Up are now open via the Clean Up website.

After registering your event, Clean Up Australia will pack and deliver your community/school/business Clean Up kit(s) directly to you, and no further action is required

Please allow a minimum of 10 working days (approximately two weeks) after registering to receive your kit

Clean Up kits contain everything you need to make your Clean Up safe and impactful.

This includes durable bags, sharps containers (if needed), and sturdy gloves that can be washed (cold, gentle machine wash), dried, and reused. More information on kits.

1-15 September: How to collect your rubbish and recycling items at your Clean Up event

At your Clean Up event, general rubbish must be placed in white bags and recyclable items in yellow bags.

Please get in touch with Council if you require spare bags, as we may be able to supply these depending on availability.

1-15 September: How to dispose of your rubbish and recycling items

All bags must be dropped off from 9am to 3pm between 1-15 September at either the Gladstone Transfer Station or the Agnes Water Transfer Station.

Please note, additional waste drop-off sites may be included based on registrations received via the Clean Up website.

Schools can take advantage of Council’s support to sort their waste items, however, this is subject to availability.

If you would need Council's support for collection of your bags, please contact us on (07) 4970 0700 to discuss collection.
