Reservoir works to provide long-term water security
Published on 09 December 2025
Gladstone Regional Council will soon commence construction and refurbishment works at the Round Hill Reservoir site, with the project set to strengthen the region’s water network and improve long-term resilience.
The two-part project – the Round Hill Reservoir Renewal and Round Hill 2 Reservoir Construction – forms part of Council’s Capital Works program and is jointly funded by the Australian Government’s Disaster Ready Fund and Gladstone Regional Council.
The project was awarded $8.6 million in funding, including $4.2 million from the Australian Government.
Gladstone Region Mayor Matt Burnett said the project will increase the network’s capacity and improve resilience to natural disasters, supporting the long-term reliability of the region’s water infrastructure.
“This project includes the construction of a new 4ML reservoir adjacent to the existing 12ML Round Hill Reservoir, which is set for renewal,” Mayor Burnett said.
“The 4ML reservoir will be constructed to ensure water supply continuity while the existing reservoir undergoes renewal works.
“Once complete, the upgraded system will provide additional reserve supply and greater reliability to meet growing community demands.”

Federal Minister for Emergency Management Kristy McBain said the project would help improve resilience against natural disasters for the local community.
“The Disaster Ready Fund provides funding to projects that will reduce the risk of future disaster impacts,” Minister McBain said.
“It’s essential that communities have access to a reliable water supply, especially during natural disasters.
“This project will improve resilience and ensure Gladstone has water reserves and can meet future demands.”
Residents can expect general construction activity and traffic management at the Glenlyon Road access area between Monday to Friday from 7am-6pm.
Council will provide further notifications prior to any water network interruptions.
