Update on Police Creek Railway Bridge remediation works
Published on 17 February 2026
Gladstone Regional Council is providing an update on the ongoing closure and planned repair works for the heritage-listed Police Creek Railway Bridge in West Gladstone.
Council has secured preliminary heritage approval to undertake remediation works on the bridge, subject to the submission of detailed design drawings.
The next step will be to prepare procurement documentation and associated approvals to progress a tender process for a contractor to undertake the design and construction of the repair works.
Council is hopeful that if final heritage approval is received about mid-year, the repairs can then occur, and the bridge may possibly reopen in late 2026.
More refined timeframes will be determined as the procurement stage progresses.
CLOSED: Police Creek Railway Bridge. Blain Park, West Gladstone.
In the meantime, bridge closure signage has been installed on both sides of the structure to clearly prohibit public access.
However, temporary fencing installed on both sides has been taken down following repeated damage and removal by the public.
After evaluating various options, Council determined that the continual interference was creating excessive costs and heightened safety risks.
Residents are urged to respect the closure for their own safety.
