The Gladstone Region has a new hero with Georgia Green unveiled as Council’s latest Waste Education mascot.

Georgia Green will join a formidable Waste Education force alongside general waste and recycling waste heroes Benjamin Binny and Rolanda Recycle when Council introduces a Garden Organics (GO) kerbside bin service from July.

Gladstone Region Mayor Matt Burnett said Georgia Green cannot wait to gobble up garden waste from the more than 17,000 households who will receive the service.

“From July eligible residents will receive a GO Bin to complement the existing red general waste bin and yellow recycling bin,” Mayor Burnett said.

“The GO Bin is for uncontaminated garden waste including flowers, hedge pruning, grass clippings, leaves and loose bark, shrubs and weeds – Georgia will love accepting these items.

“However, there are items Georgia Green does not like including fruit or vegetables, food scraps, large logs or large branches, general waste, garden accessories, plastic bags, concrete and compostable items like paper plates, wooden spoons, coffee cups and lids.”

The upcoming GO Bin service will reduce landfill waste and divert your garden waste organics into a reusable useful product (mulch) for residents to use.

And reducing waste to landfill will also help our community reduce the impact of the Queensland Government’s increased Waste Levy.
