Popular youth event Festival of Summer has expanded like an unfurled beach towel and will now span the entire summer school holiday period from 13 December until 26 January.

Formerly a one-week event for young people aged 11 to 17 years, Festival of Summer will run across a six-week period and is now open for all school aged participants.

Curated by Gladstone Regional Council, events will be held at various locations throughout the region, including Council facilities such as Gladstone Regional Libraries, Gladstone Tondoon Botanic Gardens and Gladstone Regional Art Gallery & Museum, ensuring something for all interests and ages.

Gladstone Region Mayor Matt Burnett said Festival of Summer is a low-cost event for young people to the beat the boredom during the school holidays.

“This year, Festival of Summer is expanding to include a fantastic and diverse range of workshops, experiences and interactive activities designed to inspire, educate and entertain young people across the summer break,” Mayor Burnett said.

“Many events are free or very reasonably priced and will be delivered in secure, supervised spaces by experienced facilitators.”
