Discount Microchipping Day on offer at Discovery Coast

Discovery Coast pet owners will have an opportunity to save money on their furry friend when Council hosts a Discount Microchipping Day at two locations on Thursday 21 May.
Council-authorised microchip implanters will be present at Agnes Water Library and Miriam Vale Community Centre for the Discount Microchipping Day, with a discounted price for microchipping of $20 per animal (cat or dog) payable at the time of booking.
The Agnes Water timeslot will run from 9am-11am, while the Miriam Vale timeslot is 1pm-3pm. Each booking is a 15-minute slot, with the last booking available at 10.45am (Agnes Water) and 2.45pm (Miriam Vale).
Gladstone Region Councillor Michelle Wagner said microchipping is an essential part of responsible pet ownership that can help reduce annual pet registration fees.
“Not only does a microchip provide a simple solution to return your pet if it goes missing, but it also reduces annual animal registration renewal fees by about $20 each year,” Councillor Wagner said.
“If you get your pet desexed and microchipped, this can reduce that fee by up to $80 per year.
“Microchipping is mandatory in Queensland, and it is a government requirement that pets born after April 2009 be microchipped and their microchipping details provided to Council.
“The majority of pets, besides pets now in their golden years, will fall under this legislation, so now is a great time to save some money and get your pet microchipped.”

Pre-payment is essential prior to attending your appointment and the payment is non-refundable.
To book an appointment and make your payment, please call Council on (07) 4970 0700 or visit your nearest Council Office or Rural Transaction Centre (RTC). No walk-ins will be accepted.
All animals must be aged eight weeks old and over. Only one person per animal must attend the appointment. For the safety of people and other pets, animals must be restrained on a leash or in a cage.
