Council operating hours during Christmas and New Year period

Gladstone Regional Council is advising residents of its venue and facility operating hours during the 2025 Christmas and New Year period.

Administration Offices, Depots and Rural Transaction Centres

  • Phone enquiries will be taken 24 hours a day, 7 days a week on (07) 4970 0700
  • Council’s Administration Offices and Rural Transaction Centres will shut from close of business (COB) on Wednesday, 24 December and resume normal hours on Friday, 2 January 2026
  • Depots will also close at COB on 24 December and reopen on 2 January, as per normal hours
  • Visit www.gladstone.qld.gov.au/onlineservices if you have a non-urgent request.
Transfer Stations, Landfill and Waste
  • Kerbside bin collection services will occur Monday to Friday as per usual schedule
  • Benaraby Landfill will operate on normal hours, except on Christmas Day where it will operate on reduced hours from 7.30am to 3pm
  • All Transfer Stations will be closed on Christmas Day, but will operate as normal on Boxing Day and Public Holidays in December and January
  • Tip Top Shop at Benaraby Landfill and Gladstone Transfer Station will close on 25-26 December.

Community Facilities

  • Gladstone Regional Libraries will be closed from the end of normal business hours (as shown below) on Wednesday, 24 December 2025 and will reopen on Friday, 2 January 2026
    • Agnes Water – 9am to 1pm and 2pm to 5pm (Monday to Friday) and 9am to 12pm (Saturday)
    • Boyne Island – 9am to 5.30pm (Monday to Friday) and 9am to 4pm (Saturday)
    • Calliope – 8.30am to 5pm (Monday to Friday) and 9am to 12pm (Saturday)
    • Gladstone – 9am to 5.45pm (Monday to Friday) and 9am to 4pm (Saturday)
    • Miriam Vale and Mount Larcom – 9am to 1pm and 2pm to 5pm (Monday to Friday)
    • The Precinct Library – 8.15am to 4.30pm (Monday to Friday)
    • Out & About Library van will resume normal service from Monday, 5 January 2026
    • Visit www.gladstonelibraries.qld.gov.au/elibrary to access eLibrary resources.
  • Philip Street Communities & Families Precinct will be closed from 4.30pm on Wednesday 24 December and will resume normal hours from Friday, 2 January 2026.

GRC Animal Pound Facility

  • Animal Pound Facility will be closed on public holidays:

    • Impound releases by appointment only – phone Council on (07) 4970 0700
    • Registrations are to be completed online via GRC payment website prior to contacting Council to make an Impound Release Appointment
    • Impound and Sustenance fees will be payable over the phone, using Online Services only
    • Normal hours and processes will resume from Friday, 2 January 2026
    • Only one person per appointment is allowed in the pound
    • Please bring your own restraints (leashes or cages/carriers) when you are collecting your animal.

  • Tondoon Botanic Gardens is open to explore every day (except Christmas Day) 7am-5.30pm:

    • Yūjō Bonsai House will close from Saturday 20 December, reopening from Saturday 3 January
    • Administration Office and Visitor Information Centre closed from 4pm on Tuesday 23 December and will reopen Monday, 5 January 2026
    • Refer to Junction CAFE at Tondoon Facebook page or phone (07) 4979 0953 for café opening hours.
  • Gladstone Regional Art Gallery & Museum (GRAGM) will close at 4.30pm on Wednesday 24 December and will reopen at 10am on Friday, 2 January 2026.

  • Gladstone Entertainment Convention Centre (GECC) and Box Office will close from 4.30pm on Friday 19 December and will resume normal hours from 9am Monday, 5 January 2026:

Boyne Tannum Memorial Parklands - water view

  • Council’s Cemeteries will be available for vehicle and/or pedestrian access (depending on layout of facility) throughout the Christmas and New Year period:

    • The gates to Port Curtis Cemetery, Calliope Cemetery and Boyne Tannum Memorial Parklands will be open to vehicles and pedestrians between 8am-6pm on Christmas Day, Boxing Day and New Year’s Day
    • Funeral services will be unavailable on 25-26 December and 1 January.
