This LUMINOUS, experience Currents of Connection, a celebration of culture, community and light that brings our sister city story to life. For 30 years, a connection has flowed between Gladstone and Saiki, Japan. Separated by thousands of kilometres, Gladstone and Saiki City remain reflections of one another, two harbour cities connected by water, culture and community.

Event details

The much-loved LUMINOUS event will return from 5.30-9.30pm, Thursday, 16 July to Sunday, 19 July 2026. Tickets are $6 per person and children under the age of 5 can enjoy the experience for free.

All attendees must have a ticket to show upon event entry; this includes free tickets. Tickets will go on sale soon, stay tuned!

LUMINOUS is a mesmerising visual light event which features: 

  • Interactive activations  
  • Impressive lighting displays    
  • Roving entertainment 
  • Workshops 
  • Zen Zone - A dedicated area to decompress and escape the crowds.
  • Mini Golf
  • Children’s activities and so much more!  

Parking and transport

No public transport is available for this event.

A designated drop-off zone is located in the industry carpark, with a fenced walkway providing safe access to the event entrance.

Parking is available in the industry carpark, which is recommended for those travelling from Kirkwood Road, Glen Eden and beyond. Additional parking is available at the Meteors Soccer Fields for those travelling from Gladstone direction.

Please follow event signage and directions from traffic staff on arrival.

Accessibility and inclusivity

At the forefront of delivering LUMINOUS is our commitment to accessibility and inclusivity, ensuring every member of our community finds a welcoming space to enjoy and participate in this event. LUMINOUS is a sunflower-friendly event, and Council is committed to ‘Making the invisible visible’. At LUMINOUS, we make a conscious effort to include a range of food vendors to support the inclusion of people with food allergies and dietary requirements.

Accessible parking will be available onsite for valid permit holders, with Traffic Control assisting guests with directions on the night. Disability Parking will be available and located in the staff carpark (left of the main gate entry) and will be managed by Navey Cadets.

Accessible toilets will be located within the event site. 

A quiet Zen Zone will be available for attendees requiring a low sensory space.

Additional Support: Two wheelchairs and a buggy will be onsite. Police and ambulance bay on the main road.

Event highlights and entertainment

LUMINOUS has grown into a signature annual event for the Gladstone Region. Now in its eighth year, LUMINOUS 2026 celebrates Gladstone’s 30-year sister city relationship with Saiki, Japan. Through a series of interactive and engaging light displays, the event will highlight cultural connection, shared history and the enduring friendship between the two cities. 

Visitors can enjoy a diverse program of entertainment and interactive experiences, including:

  • Workshops delivered by Gladstone Regional Art Gallery & Museum
  • Kimono try-on experience hosted by the Saiki Sister City Committee
  • Performances by local musicians and DJs
  • Interactive workshops led by local artists.

Tondoon Botanic Gardens closure

To accommodate for LUMINOUS preparations visitor restrictions will be in place at the Gladstone Tondoon Botanic Gardens from Thursday, 9 July to Wednesday, 22 July. 

During the event period (Thursday 16 to Sunday 19 July), the Gardens will close to the public at 3:00pm each day, before reopening at 5:30pm for LUMINOUS entry.

Luminous FAQ's

Tickets & Entry
Entry is free for children aged 5 and under; however, all attendees must hold a valid event ticket, including those eligible for free entry. Tickets must be presented upon entry.

Animals
Animals are not permitted at the event. Assistance and service dogs may be allowed on a case-by-case basis.

Picnic Rugs & Chairs
Picnic rugs and fold-up chairs are welcome.

First Aid
First Aid services will be available at the event for support at any time.

Lost Property
Please visit the Information Tent for any lost property enquiries. Unclaimed items will be held at the Gladstone Entertainment Convention Centre (GECC) for up to 48 hours after the event.

Smoking
This is a smoke-free event. If you wish to smoke, you will need to exit the event site.
