QPWS - Aerial Pest Management Control Program- Curtis Island

The Queensland Parks and Wildlife Service (QPWS) are planning to conduct aerial shooting activities on Curtis Island National Park, Curtis Island Conservation Park, and Curtis Island State Forest, from Monday, 23 to Friday, 27 March 2026, as part of the conservation management program for the park. The pest management operations help to conserve the natural and cultural key values of the park.

The target species of the program is feral pigs.

Due to live aerial shooting operations, the following areas will be temporarily closed during this period:

  • Turtle Street Campground
  • North Turtle Street Day Use Area
  • Joey Lees Campground
  • Yellow Patch Campground
  • Road north of Grahams Creek Fire Trail, latitude 23°41.054'S, longitude 151°17.054'E

These areas will be closed to all public access. Barricades and signage will be in place.

To ensure public safety, no access is permitted to protected areas north or west of Grahams Creek Fire Trail, latitude 23°41.054'S, longitude 151°17.054'E during the above dates.

Access will remain open along the main access tracks: Connor Bluff Day Use Area, Graham Creek Boat Ramp, Ship Hill Lookout, and Multi-use Trails. 

500-metre marine exclusion zone will be in force for all waters within the following areas:

  • From Point latitude 23°41.053'S, longitude 151°17.187'E - Grahams Ck Fire Trail Headland
  • Black Head
  • Keppel Creek
  • Yellow Patch
  • Cape Capricorn.

This exclusion zone applies to all vessels, including those anchoring at Cape Capricorn and Yellow Patch.

All vessels must depart these areas prior to commencement of operations and remain clear for the duration of the exclusion period.

Maritime Safety Queensland will issue a Notice to Mariners before operations commence.

Please observe all signage, barriers and directions from rangers and do not enter closed areas.
