Pest Management Control Program (Capricornia Cays National Park)

Queensland Parks and Wildlife Service (QPWS) will be conducting a Pest Management Control Program at the following Capricornia Cays National Park including; Tryon Island, Mast Head Island, Hoskyn Island (East and West), Fairfax Island (East and West) from 1100 hours on Tuesday 25th November 2025 until 2359 hours on 30th November 2025 (weather permitting) as part of the conservation management program for the park.

All control activities are conducted in accordance with pest management plans and help to protect native plants and wildlife from the harmful effects of pest animals.

The program will consist of live firing operations on the ground. 

As a result, the following Islands will be temporarily closed, with an additional 2000m exclusion zone extended seaward from the high water mark will be in force for all land and waters contained within the following areas for the duration of the pest management program:

  • Tryon Island- Latitude  23° 14.805’S, Longitude 151° 46.754’E
  • Mast Head Island- Latitude  23° 32.311‘S, Longitude 151° 43.616‘E
  • Hoskyn Island (East)- Latitude  23° 48.075‘S, Longitude 152° 17.998’E
  • Hoskyn Island (West)- 23° 48.416‘S, Longitude 152° 17.442’E
  • Fairfax Island (East)- Latitude  23° 51.309‘S, Longitude 152° 22.561’E
  • Fairfax Island (West)- 23° 51.555‘S, Longitude 152° 22.106’E

This exclusion zone applies to all vessels around these areas. All vessels at these anchorages must depart before the exclusion zone commences and are to remain clear during these times.

Please observe all signage, barriers, and directions from rangers and do not enter closed areas.
