Students rapt to design bin wraps
Published on 13 November 2025
Local primary school students turned waste education into art through the creative Bins Wrapped in Hope project aimed at helping residents put the right things in the right bin.
Council’s Waste Education Team and local artist Jen Hollstein worked with Year 4-6 students from four schools - Gladstone South, Kin Kora, Yarwun and St Francis Catholic Primary - to design colourful and educational artwork that were converted into bin wraps.
The initiative aimed to transform everyday waste bins into vibrant teaching tools, reminding the community about the importance of recycling and sustainability.
The student-designed bin wraps are proudly displayed on their school bins and can also be viewed at Yarwun and Gladstone Transfer Stations and Benaraby Landfill.

Supported by the Queensland Government’s Recycling and Jobs Fund, the project combines creativity with environmental awareness and demonstrates that even small changes can make a big difference when it comes to caring for our environment.
