Proposed concession boost for Gladstone Region pensioners
Published on 02 July 2026
Gladstone Regional Council is proposing to increase its annual Pensioner Concession to a maximum of $350 in its upcoming Budget on 21 July.
Gladstone Region Mayor Matt Burnett said this boost is part of Council’s ongoing commitment to ease cost-of-living pressures and to support the needs of our valued pensioners.
“Ratepayers who have recently become eligible for the pension, or who have not previously applied, are encouraged to contact Council to kickstart the process,” Mayor Burnett said.
“Existing recipients will have the increased subsidy automatically applied.”
Mayor Burnett said Council’s pensioner concession rebate is in addition to the Queensland Government, who provide a pensioner subsidy to a maximum of $200 per annum and a 20 per cent discount on the State Emergency Management Levy.
“The $200 subsidy from the Queensland Government needs to be increased or at least indexed to keep up with the rate of inflation,” he said.
To be eligible for Council’s Pensioner Concession, a person must hold one of the following concession cards:
- Queensland Pensioner Concession Card (issued by Centrelink or Department of Veterans’ Affairs) OR
- Department of Veterans Affairs Gold Card (all conditions)
And:
- Be the owner occupier or life tenant of a property in the Gladstone Region
- Be solely or jointly liable for the payment of Council rates and charges levied on that property
- The subject property must be an approved dwelling.
If you have recently become eligible for the pension, moved into a new home or not previously applied, visit www.gladstone.qld.gov.au/Pension-Concession or phone Council on 4970 0700.
Council will endorse its 2026/27 Operational Plan and Budget on Tuesday, 21 July 2026.
Ratepayers can expect to receive their rates notice in August 2026.
