National Tree Day is turning 30 in July with registrations to Australia's largest community tree planting party now open.

There are two National Tree Day planting events take place in the Gladstone Region – a Schools Tree Day on Friday 24 July (registrations via National Tree Day website) and the official National Tree Day on Sunday 26 July – allowing people of all ages to make a difference to our local environment.

Registrations for the official community planting event on 26 July are open from now until 17 July and can be made via Council’s Conversations website.

Webb Park in West Gladstone will host this year’s community planting event, marking the third and final year at this location with 1000 trees planted at the site since 2024.

Council’s previous National Tree Day site was at Cashin Park in Tannum Sands where 740 trees were planted across a three-year period.

Gladstone Region Councillor Karen Davis said 350 plants will be planted throughout the morning of National Tree Day.

“Planting times will be staggered between 7.30-11am, and once participants have planted their trees, the team at Conservation Volunteers Australia will be on hand with a free sausage sizzle,” Councillor Davis said.

“National Tree Day is always an enjoyable and fun morning, and a great activity to connect with family, friends and the wider community.”

Established in 1996, Planet Ark's National Tree Day has grown into Australia's largest community tree planting and nature care event. The program is a call to action for all Australians to get their hands dirty and give back to their community.
