Governor of Queensland to attend Easter in Gladstone celebrations

Her Excellency the Honourable Dr Jeannette Young AC PSM, Governor of Queensland, will join Gladstone Region Mayor Matt Burnett for a series of official engagements during the city’s iconic Easter in Gladstone celebrations.

Her Excellency will be accompanied by her husband, Professor Graeme Nimmo RFD, who is patron of the Royal Queensland Yacht Squadron and joint patron of the Queensland Cruising Yacht Club alongside the Governor.

Mayor Burnett said Her Excellency will attend the final day of the 64th Gladstone Harbour Festival and will also assist with the 78th Brisbane to Gladstone Yacht Race trophy presentation.

“The Governor and Professor Nimmo have a long-standing association with the sailing community, so it’s an honour to have them involved in both the Brisbane to Gladstone Yacht Race and the Gladstone Harbour Festival,” Mayor Burnett said.

“I look forward to their participation at Sunday’s Harbour Festival finale and Monday morning’s trophy presentation at Gladstone Yacht Club.”

This year’s visit continues a prestigious tradition of Vice-Regal support for Easter in Gladstone celebrations, following the historic visit of former Governor Penelope Wensley AC for the festival’s 50th anniversary in 2012.
