Did you know? Interesting parks statistics
Published on 19 February 2026
The Gladstone Region is home to more than 63,000 residents spread across 10,484km2 and within that area Council maintains 177 parks and open spaces for the community to enjoy.
That’s a lot of grass to mow. And when factoring in all of our parks, verges, cemeteries and firebreaks, Council mows approximately 2.2 million square metres per year!
This equates to just under 20,000 mowing hours per year, representing about 16 full-time equivalent roles.
Our region boasts more than just parks and open spaces. While technically not a park, Gladstone Tondoon Botanic Gardens is the jewel in the crown with three living collections (Port Curtis Plant Region Collection, South East Queensland Rainforest Collection and North Queensland Rainforest Collection) as well as a Bonsai House, Lake Tondoon and plenty of open spaces to escape to.
For those looking to increase their heart rate, the region has two pump tracks (Gladstone and Boyne Island), seven skate parks (including Agnes Water Skate Park currently under redevelopment), several dedicated fenced off-leash dog areas and 10 parks featuring fitness equipment.
