The Australian Bureau of Statistics (ABS) has officially set Tuesday, 11 August 2026, as the date for the next national Census.

This massive counting effort happens every five years and serves as a vital tool for local councils to understand exactly who lives in their area and what they need.

Information from the Census helps all three levels of government, businesses and not-for-profit organisations across the country make decisions.

It also informs planning for schools, healthcare, transport and infrastructure.

By providing a clear picture of every neighbourhood, the Census ensures funds are distributed fairly and helps councils decide exactly where to build infrastructure and deliver vital community services.

The ABS is offering temporary Census jobs between now and August across all areas of Australia, including within the Gladstone Region.
