Whilst major industrial facilities dominate Gladstone and Boyne Island, the region also features coastal towns and rural farming areas. Below are some major projects currently sought, being undertaken or completed in the past 12 months by the Gladstone Regional Council.

New Gladstone Region Planning Scheme
Gladstone Regional council has grasped the opportunity to formulate its inaugural planning scheme for the entire region in accordance with the Sustainable Planning Act (2009).

Gladstone Aquatic Centre redevelopment
Construction of the Gladstone Aquatic Centre redevelopment commenced on Tuesday, April 16, 2013 and was completed and opened later in the year. Features will include a revamped toddlers' pool with sprays, bubblers, mushroom and turle sculptures and an education water play area.

Agnes Water/Seventeen Seventy Integrated Water Project
Water resources within the environs of the Agnes Water - Seventeen Seventy conurbation were severely limited. To ensure the long term sustainability of the area's water resources, Gladstone Regional Council completed the project in 2013.

Gladstone Airport Reconstruction Project

A major milestone in the $65 million Gladstone Airport Runway Reconstruction Project was achieved on Saturday, July 10, 2010 when stage four evening works were finalised. An official opening and the corporatisation of the facility followed, making it one of the best regional airports in Queensland.

Tigalee Creek Project

Council has completed the work on the Tigalee Creek Project (at Kathleen Shanahan park in Gladstone), significantly reducing the impact of flooding for motorists, businesses, school children and residents downstream.
