Council is hosting an information session for commercial operators and local businesses who will be impacted by the waste levy to help them better understand the State Governments levy.
The Queensland Government has introduced a levy on waste going to landfill from 1 July 2019.
The levy is part of a new waste strategy for Queensland to increase recycling and resource recovery and reduce waste. The levy will encourage business and industry to reduce, reuse and recycle more, only sending waste that cannot be recovered to landfill.
Businesses in the region will pay an increased fee on waste that goes to the active cell in the landfill.
The session will cover impacts to businesses, tips on how to reduce the amount of waste going to landfill, and the fees and charges at the local waste facilities.
