- Description of Works
-
Civil upgrade works will occur during May on the concrete public boat ramp at the Flat Rock Picnic Grounds.
These works will be dependent on tides and weather and will be carried out by a Contractor, as part of Council’s 2022/23 Capital Works program.
This boat ramp upgrade project is one of many upgrades and safety improvements being made to Council’s assets and infrastructure.
As a popular asset, widely used by members of the public for recreational fishing and boating, works will improve useability and safety of the single lane boat ramp for our community and visitors to our region.
An extension to both sides of the boat ramp will be constructed consisting of geotextile, rock armour and river rock.
Work involves:
• Improved scour protection to sides of the ramp,
• Improved side accessibility, making it easier to pull boats up and walk on safely,
• Installation of ramp anchor points for boats to be tied to temporarily while vehicles are parked and retrieved,
• Altering drainage from the existing carpark to direct water on to the bank armour instead of down the boat ramp. - Commencing
- 29 May 2023
- Completion

To keep our community safe, the existing concrete boat ramp will need to close while upgrade works are underway.
Boat ramp closure is anticipated from Monday, 29 May to Friday, 2 June.
Works will be carried out from 7am to 4pm, Monday to Friday.
During works, the road will remain open with access maintained to the natural boat ramp, picnic grounds and amenities.
Visitors to the area should expect noise from the work site, heavy vehicles and machinery operating.
Please follow signage and directions and ensure boats and watercraft are kept out of the work site exclusion area.
The Flat Rock Picnic Grounds (Public Boat Ramp Upgrade) Project is funded by the Queensland Government Department of Agriculture and Fisheries’ Fishing Infrastructure Grants Program and Gladstone Regional Council.
