- Tom Jeffery Memorial Park Bridge, Agnes Water
- Description of Works
Flood water forces and stormwater have undermined the central footing of the bridge leading to sagging of the structure.
After early investigations, to keep our community safe, Council closed the bridge to the public on 16 May.
Council will continue to maintain the temporary pedestrian access from Tom Jeffery Memorial Park to Agnes Water Main Beach following closure of the bridge which links these two areas.

- More information
Council is aware this bridge design provides a vital link to the beach.
Geotechnical investigations and engineering assessments have been completed to determine the best approach to repair the asset.
What’s been happening?
Since removal of the bridge from site in August for repair, upgrade works on the bridge structure have been occurring off-site with replacement of timber and upgrading of the metal components.
Procurement of precast concrete piles has also been underway in readiness for on-site installation later.
Tenders are currently open for Installation of Precast Concrete Bridge Piles & Headstock.
- On-site work to install new piles, foundation and structural protection works.
- Reinstallation of the deck beam and handrail.
Council is extremely mindful of peak holiday times in Agnes Water and Seventeen Seventy, so bridge project plans are being considered with the community and visitors to our region in mind.
Works required will take time and scheduling of works is dependent on contractor availability, supply of materials and weather permitting.
Efforts to have bridge works completed prior to the summer school holidays will not be achievable, so to reduce tourism and economic impacts, project work will recommence on-site from early February.
Planned works forecast
- Currently, the tender evaluation process is underway and will then progress to contract award.
- Early February - Contractors start on-site foundation work.
- Late March - Anticipated project completion.
Council will continue to maintain the temporary pedestrian access from Tom Jeffery Memorial Park to Agnes Water Main Beach.
- More detail about planned works will be issued before work starts.
