Concerns about speed limits within the Gladstone Central Business District (CBD) were discussed by the Speed Management Committee (SMC), consisting of representatives from Gladstone Regional Council, Department of Transport and Main Roads (DTMR) and Queensland Police Service (QPS).
General inconsistency of speed limits throughout the Gladstone CBD was also raised.
Following a Speed Limit Review - speed limit recommendations were forwarded to the road authority for consideration, approval and implementation by the Speed Management Committee.
From Monday, 29 May, a speed limit of 40km/h will come into effect for streets within the Gladstone CBD area, with exception of a 10km/h shared zone to remain at Library Square in Goondoon St, and 20km/h sections of Oaka Lane to remain.
The Gladstone CBD precinct area is bordered by Lord St to the north (including Flinders Parade near East Shores Stage 1a), Auckland St to the east, Tank St to the south, Glenlyon St to the west.
Speed limits along Auckland St and Glenlyon St/Hanson Road will remain 50km/h and 60km/h respectively.
Introduction of the 40km/h speed limit precinct will:
• provide speed limit consistency in the Gladstone CBD, and
• improve safety for pedestrians and road users. - Commencing
