APLNG backs program to enhance health and safety in community
Gladstone Region residents are benefitting from the 2012 Year of Cycling program, which was launched on January 21 by Gladstone Regional Council, Gladstone PCYC and major sponsor Australia Pacific LNG (APLNG).
The program, part of Council's Healthy Active Gladstone Region (HAGR) project, focuses on raising bicycle awareness, promoting alternative uses of active transport and general health and well-being among residents.
APLNG has backed the program to the tune of $30,000 with 50 per cent going to the PCYC's Year of Cycling initiatives and the remainder towards Council's commitments to the program.
At the announcement, Mayor Gail Sellers commended APLNG for its commitment to backing the year-long program which aims at promoting health and wellbeing among the community through safe cycling.|
APLNG CEO Page Maxson said the funding commitment meant the program could include a strong safety influence, including sessions run by the PCYC that focus on bicycle helmet and bicycle maintenance education plus the many activities run by Council involving BMX training and disability programs plus trail maintenance.
