Becoming an Australian Citizen is an important step in the journey of immigration to Australia. Gladstone Regional Council welcomes new Australian Citizens to the region.

Applying for Citizenship
 

Information on applying for Australian Citizenship is available by contacting the Department of Immigration and Citizenship on the Citizenship Hotline on 131 880 or via the Department of Immigration and Citizenship's website at http://www.citizenship.gov.au/applying/ . You may be required to undertake a citizenship test depending on your eligibility.  Please contact the Department for further information.

Citizenship Ceremonies Conducted
 

Citizenship ceremonies are conducted regularly with the Mayor. The Mayor holds public citzenship ceremonies and *urgent private ceremonies (*urgent private ceremonies are only held if the candidate has an urgent valid reason and a request must be made to the Department of Immigration and Border Control if an urgent ceremony is required).  Council holds a special public ceremony on the eve of Australia Day in conjunction with Council's Australia Day Awards.

Council is contacted at the end of the citizenship application process by the Department of Immigration and Border Control when it is advised that candidates have received approval. Please note that once candididate have received their letter of approval from the Department it can take another month before Council is notified.  At this stage candidates will be contacted to arrange a ceremony with the Mayor.
