Citizenship Ceremonies Conducted
Citizenship ceremonies are conducted each month (with the exception of December) with the Mayor. The Mayor holds public citzenship ceremonies and *urgent private ceremonies (*urgent private ceremonies are only held if the candidate has an urgent valid reason and a request must be made to the Department of Immigration and Border Control if an urgent ceremony is required). Council holds a special public ceremony on the eve of Australia Day in conjunction with Council's Australia Day Awards and on Citizenship Day (usually 17 September).
Council is contacted at the end of the citizenship application process by the Department of Immigration and Border Control when the candidate has received approval and has been allocated to a ceremony. Once a candididate has received their letter of approval from the Department it can take several months before Council is notified of their allocation to a ceremony. Please note that once the candidate has their approval letter it can take up to 3 - 6 months to be allocated to a ceremony. Council will contact the candidate via email and foward a copy of letter in the mail once we are advised of when the ceremony will be by the Department.
