Gladstone Regional Council is working with sports clubs currently using Boyne Tannum Country Club facilities to identify future developmental opportunities. The move follows the lapse of the contract for the sale of the Boyne Tannum Country Club sport precinct on March 31.

The prospective buyers, Boyne Tannum Pty Ltd, had already received two contract extensions before the lapse of a third on March 31, and then another extension was not granted.

While this is a setback to those clubs who have long waited for the sale to go through, the lapse of the contract has also provided Council with an opportunity to reconsider a range of options for the future of the site.

The Jacaranda Drive site is prime real estate, with Boyne River frontage. Council believes it is incumbent upon it to ensure that this public asset is utilised or developed in a way that provides long-term legacy benefits for the Boyne Island and Tannum Sands and broader communities.

If you belong to a club that is interested in becoming involved in the future planning of this site, please let us know by emailing sport&recreation@gladstonerc.qld.gov.au or phone Steve Bankier, Coordinator Sport and Recreation, on 4976 6300.

Boyne Tannum Sports Park proposal Boyne Tannum Sports Park proposal

The proposed Boyne Tannum Sport Park is about 30 hectares in total area, located between the Tannum Sands sewerage treatment plant and the western edge of the Pacific Ranch Estate.  As the crow flies, it is about 2.4km from the Tannum Sands High School.

Stage One of the development will see three full-size lit soccer fields constructed and serviced by a large amenities building. The amenities building will incorporate players' change rooms, male, female and disability access toilets, canteen/kitchen area, referees and first aid facilities.

Shade and seating areas are included.

To the south of the soccer area, a purpose-built athletics oval with field event area are proposed. This track is grass but the potential for a tartan track exists if funding becomes available in the future.

A full-size hockey field could be accommodated inside the running track and the area would be serviced by the kiosk, toilets and storage facilities that are currently used by the BITS Soccer Club. This area would also have flood lighting.

More substantial amenities similar to those of the soccer area are proposed at a later stage.

It is proposed that the access road will be sealed, leading to an unsealed central car park. This car park would receive solar lighting and could be fully sealed in future stages.

Appropriate drainage, turf/landscaping and irrigation is planned throughout the site.

The footprint of the proposed Stage One is less than 12ha, meaning over 18ha of useable space remains for future expansion and the possible inclusion of new sports.

Council believes that with careful planning and consultation the Boyne Tannum Sport Park has the potential to be a true regional sporting facility, accommodating the needs of the community for many years to come.
