Welcome to the Gladstone Region. Our region is famous for its fishing and crabbing. With sensational spots such as Lake Awoonga, the Boyne and Calliope Rivers and Curtis and Facing Islands, you'll never go hungry.

The Attractions
Lake Awoonga is located 30 kilometres from Gladstone and is stocked with Barra, Saratoga and Sea Mullet. Hire a boat or kayak from Lake Awoonga Boating and Leisure Hire, take a walking trip, a swim or laze under the shade of the trees. The location boasts picturesque waterfalls, walking paths, barbecue area and playground equipment. For more information click here

If you prefer a little more adventure, don't be afraid to venture of the beaten track to enjoy our pristine national parks. Rough and ready 4WD trails and walking tracks await you. For more information click here.

Fancy a trip to the islands of the Southern Great Barrier Reef?  Heron Island is located just off the coast of Gladstone and boasts some of the best scuba diving and snorkelling on the Great Barrier Reef. Heron Island is a coral cay, meaning it is completely composed of sand and coral fragments. The island is surrounded by 24 square kilometres of reef and boasts several nesting spots for green and loggerhead turtles.

Accessible only by vessel launch from Seventeen Seventy, Lady Musgrave provides visitors with a range of experiences.  Scuba divers may come face to face with manta rays or moray eels, and snorkellers will discover giant rainbow coloured fish or coral trout. Swimming and snorkelling inside the lagoon offers calm, crystal clear water - like swimming in a giant aquarium! For information on Facing, Wilson, Curtis and Quoin Islands click here.

The postcard perfect coastline of the seaside communities of Boyne Island, Tannum Sands, Agnes Water, Town of 1770, Turkey Beach and Baffle Creek are untouched, pure and exciting. Imagine swimming in crystal clear waters, unwinding on your own deserted beach, kayaking or surfing alongside turtles and dolphins, sailing or bushwalking.

A trip to the Gladstone Region would not be complete without taking in the natural beauty of the Boyne Valley.  Just a short drive from Gladstone, the Valley is a rural community encompassing the towns of Nagoorin, Ubobo, Builyan and Many Peaks.
