Options available to assist with managing rates payments
Council is reminding property owners that options are available to reduce the burden of paying their rates by October each year.
Gladstone Region Mayor Matt Burnett said pensioners may be eligible for significant discounts and all ratepayers could make down payments in the lead-up to their rates notice.
"To avoid paying a lump sum, property owners can make pre-payments via a wide range of payment options," he said.
"And if they pay the remaining balance within 30 days of receiving their rates notice in August, they will be eligible for a discount."
Ratepayers can make pre-payments using the payment details on their most recent rate notices or online via Council's Online Services platform at www.gladstone.qld.gov.au/OnlineServices
Finance and Corporate Governance Committee Chair Rick Hansen said eligible pensioners could currently receive a remission of up to $200 per year from the State Government in addition to a subsidy of up to $290 per year from Council.
"Eligible pensioners, whose principle place of residence is in the Gladstone Region, can apply for both the state government remission and Council's subsidy through Council," he said.
Pensioners seeking to check their eligibility or receive further information can phone Council on 4970 0700 or view the Pensioner Remission form on www.gladstone.qld.gov.au/forms
Cr Burnett added that all ratepayers could set up regular payment instalments when their rates notice arrived in August, as an additional avenue to manage their payment.
