New storage reservoir to help Gladstone city meet future water needs
Construction work has begun on the $5.4 million Paterson 2 water reservoir at South Gladstone.
The first of two 10 megalitre water reservoirs planned for the site adjacent to the west side of Glenlyon Road, opposite Catalina Heights estate, will supplement the existing 5ML Paterson Reservoir.
Gladstone Mayor Matt Burnett said the addition of 20ML of water storage, with the second 10ML reservoir expected to come online in 2021, was needed in order to meet future demands.
“Council planning studies have identified the need for 25ML of total storage for the Paterson zone to rectify existing deficiencies and to cater for further development and population growth within the supply area,” Councillor Burnett said.
“The project also includes the construction of an access road to the site and ancillary pipework and structures.”
Construction of the first 10ML reservoir is expected to take nine months to complete.
